Biography
A news reporter specializing in North Korea, diplomacy, international affairs, international sports and feature writing. Started the career at the JoongAng Daily (currently Korea JoongAng Daily) on January 8 of 2001, and now with the JoongAng Ilbo (Korean-language mother paper).
In recent months, Chun covered the developments of U.S.-North Korea and inter-Korean relations on the ground, traveling from Hanoi to Singapore to Panmunjom, and attending press conferences of President Donald Trump and President Moon Jae-in.
Currently a correspondent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), working on North Korean issues, ROK-US alliance, Japan and China. Covered the Ministry of Unification from 2015 before moving on to MOFA.
Fluent in American English, together with an intermediate level of efficiency in Japanese(JLPT 2-grade).
Recent beats include the International Olympic Committee and Korea’s Pyeongchang’s bid for the 2018 Winter Games. Proud to enjoy a network with members / reporters in the international sports arena. The first Korean-national reporter who had an exclusive interview with the IOC President Jacques Rogge.
Graduate of Korea University(bachelor’s degree in English), Yonsei University (master’s degree in journalism) and Sogang University (master’s degree in North Korean studies).
