1964년 제주도 출생. 제주대학교 국어국문학과에 재직하면서 문학평론가로도 활동하고 있다. 저서로 <4·3의 진실과 문학>(2003), <제주문학론>(2008), <작은 섬, 큰 문학>(2017) 등이 있다.
