Biography
박인국 최종현학술원장은 1978년 외무고시 12기로 외교부에 입부하여 2011년 주 UN대사 퇴임 시까지 33년간 직업 외교관으로 근무했다. 주 쿠웨이트 대사, 대통령 국제안보 비서관, 외교통상부 외교정책 실장, 다자외교 실장, 주 제네바 대표부 차석대사, 주 EU 대표부 공사참사관, 주미 1등 서기관으로 근무했고, UN 2과장, 군축원자력 과장, 대북경수로사업지원기획단 국제협력부장을 역임했다. 국제기구 분야에서는 UN 환경정상회의(Rio+20) 준비위원회 공동의장, UN총회 제2위원회 의장(경제∙금융) 등의 역할을 수행했다. 2011년 9월 유엔 대사직 종료 후 한국고등교육재단 사무총장으로 근무하기 시작하였다. 서울대 중어중문학 학사, 동 대학 대학원에서 법학 석사를 취득했으며 서울대 및 고려대 국제대학원에서 초빙교수로 강의하고 있고, 북경대, 청화대, 복단대, 중국인민대 등 주요 중국 대학의 아시아연구센터 공동이사장을 맡고 있다.
In-kook Park is President of Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies(KFAS) and Chey Institute for Advanced Studies(CIAS).
Prior to joining KFAS, he served as a career diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1978 to 2011. In addition to serving as Ambassador to the United Nations(2008-2011), he was Ambassador to Geneva and Ambassador to Kuwait. He also served in the United States, Brussels, and Saudi Arabia. At the headquarters of the Ministry, he served as the Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations(2006), Deputy Foreign Minister for multilateral and global issues(2007), and Director of the United Nations Division II, the Disarmament and Nuclear Energy Division. He was Secretary to the President of the Republic of Korea for International Security. His other ambassadorial roles included President of the Geneva Conference on Disarmament(2004), Chairman of the 2nd Committee of the UN General Assembly(2009-2010), and Co-Chair of Preparatory Committee for Rio+20 UN Environment Summit(2012).
He holds a B.A. on Chinese Language and Literature and a M.A. on Law from Seoul National University, and currently serves a visiting professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Korea University. He also serves as the co-chairman of the board of Asia Research Centers of major Chinese Universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Renmin University of China.
