Gwisook Gwon is a research associate at the Tamla Culture Research Institute in Jeju National University. She taught sociology at Jeju National University from 1994 to 2016. She has been interested in state violence, collective memory, and gender for about 20 years. She has steadily published books and articles on the Jeju Massacre since 2001. Her 2006 book, Gieog-ui Jeongchi or The Politics of Memory (Seoul: Munhakgwa Jiseongsa), was designated an Excellent Book of the Year by the Korean National Academy of Sciences. Her recent works about the Jeju Massacre and gender have appeared in Tamla Munwha〔Tamla Culture〕(2014) and in 4.3-gwa Yeoksa〔History of Jeju 4.3〕(2011). A book chapter about resisting the remilitarisation of Jeju has appeared in Under Occupation (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2013). She is currently working on a monograph about the Jeju Massacre in the English language.

권귀숙은 제주대학교 소속 탐라문화연구원의 특별연구원으로 현재 활동하고 있다. 1994년부터 2016년까지 제주대학교 사회학과에서 강사로 역임했다. 주요 학문적 관심분야는 국가폭력, 사회적 기억, 젠더 등이다. 특히 제주4.3에 관심을 갖고 2001년 이후 현재까지 관련 글을 지속적으로 발표했다. 제주4.3에 관한 단행본으로는 『기억의 정치』 (문학과 지성사, 2006) 가 있다. 이 책은 한국학술원의 우수학술저서로 선정되었다. 제주4.3과 젠더에 초점을 맞춘 글이 「탐라문화」(2014) 및 「4.3과 역사」(2011)에 발표되었고, 강정마을의 평화운동을 다룬 글이 Asian Pacific Journal (2011) 및 Under Occupation (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2013)에 발표되었다. 최근에는 제주4.3을 영어본으로 출판하기 위한 작업을 진행 중이다.
