With the advancement of digital transformation and the rapid diffusion of artificial intelligence, the ways in which data is collected and processed are undergoing significant change. Data privacy regulation has likewise moved beyond the domestic sphere and emerged as a key agenda for global cooperation. In particular, areas such as cross-border data transfers, the collection and use of data for AI training, automated decision-making, the responsibilities of platform companies, public- and private-sector data governance, and reasonable privacy regulation and enforcement require a deeper understanding of different regulatory systems and the building of international trust.
This session brings together academic experts, industry representatives, and regulatory authorities from Korea, Canada, and Japan to discuss key challenges in data privacy regulation and explore avenues for cooperation. It will also examine how to balance innovation and protection, enhance the interoperability of international norms, strengthen cooperation among supervisory authorities, and promote responsible corporate data practices, with the aim of identifying future directions for trusted global data governance and international cooperation in data privacy.
