The concept of the ‘Indo-Pacific Initiative’ started from the increasing political significance of India and Australia in the region of Asia in the late 1990s, and included ‘the Asia-Pacific concept with the increasing role of SLOCs connecting the Middle East and Asia. But, as US President Trump announced the ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ in its tour of Asia last year, there is a need for understanding the effect of the ‘Indo-Pacific Initiative’ on the maritime security order together with the economic and military security environments of the region. Experts on the initiative from various countries are convening to help us maintain comprehensive and objective views on the initiative. The forum will focus on the intention and objective, potentials, and pitfalls of the initiative in order to explore its security and economic implications.
