The newly founded AIIB will likely greatly impact ongoing intra and inter-regional connectivity for emerging East Asian regionalism. Will the AIIB help accelerate the RCEP process through liberalizing trade and investment in larger East Asia? How is China’s focus on “one belt, one road” compatible with the goals of the RCEP and the recently concluded TPP? How is the AIIB differentiated from the ADB’s objectives? What would be the AIIB’s challenging tasks as a development bank for creating international public goods? It has been proposed for a long time to establish a Northeast Asia Development Bank (NEADB) for the infrastructure developments of the three northeastern provinces of China, the Russian Far East, and North Korea. Given the launch of the AIIB, is the idea of establishing a NEADB still valid?
