Recent discussions of East Asia go beyond general discourse and move toward a regional community, toward peace, and the stability of the region. Against this background, this session will discuss East Asia's past, present, and future within the timeframe of the modern period. First, we will discuss regional perceptions of East Asia proposed by Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese. Second, we will review and discuss the roles played by Joseon, Qing China, and Japan delegations. Finally, we will discuss the roles and plans of new leaders in East Asia by reexamining the shared experiences and memories of Korea, China, and Japan from the perspective of the twenty-first century.
