“Industry 4.0” has been a huge buzzword, but there is still confusion about the idea and its implications as well as the necessary adjustments in politics, law, and business. What kind of frameworks do we wish to see? How do businesses survive and gain a competitive edge in this fast-changing world? To what extent should governments play a role? How do we as Liberals balance the need for freedom to innovate with the risks and upheavals that disruptive change will bring? It is important to better understand the nature of this transformation, analyze the challenges it poses both for industry and policy sectors and to critically discuss common strategies to harness this new force to enhance our economic prosperity.
