Asia’s relatively strong economic performance with population growth over the past three decades has gradually increased economic integration within the region through various forms of regional cooperation in trade, finance, and FDI. In recent years, however, we are also witnessing an emerging trend of divide between the group of ASEAN/China-centered Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the group of US-centered Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in the Asia-Pacific region. This session discusses the positions of South Korea, Japan, China, and Malaysia on those issues of economic cooperation and conflict.
