Economic cooperation between Korea and China has seen rapid development since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Building on this development, these two countries significantly influence each other today in the aspects of trade, investment, industry cooperation, and exchange of human resources. Korea needs to extend its diplomatic leverage toward China, a key partner for future growth, by strengthening economic cooperation especially considering the importance of China’s role in various fields including the security of the Korean peninsula.
The relationship between these two countries is expected to be further developed under the new leadership of Park Geun-hye and Xi Jinping, based on a strong will to solidify the ‘mutual strategic cooperative relationship’. Discussions on major economic issues amid the changed environment will have historical meaning for the next 20 years. Beyond the two countries of Korea and China, the discussion as a driving force will also contribute to the development of the East Asian region as a whole.
