North Korea has now returned to the negotiating table after its conducting of nuclear tests, provocative missile launches, and its threats of war. Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, while announcing the completion of North Korea's nuclear program at the New Year’s Address, cited improving inter-Korean relations, participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the inter-Korean summit with the resumption of a previously closed dialogue channel. There have been speculations that with these steps, North Korea would mark the conclusion of the final stages of nuclear and missile development in its 'byeongjin nosun' (parallel development of nuclear weapons and economy), and turn towards economic development. This session attempts to anticipate the direction North Korea will proceed under sanctions from the international community following the PyeongChang Olympics and the calculations of the Kim Jong-un including the North Korean leadership.
