In this session, we discuss the role and the contribution of international scientific cooperation and science diplomacy to peace and prosperity in East Asia, in particular, with a notable example of the Mt. Baek-du international research cooperation. Recently, science has become increasingly critical in complex international negotiations and in addressing global challenges such as earthquakes, volcano eruptions, climate change, and other natural catastrophes. Moreover, in the age of accelerating science and technology, science diplomacy is increasingly becoming a central element of public diplomacy and soft power and is emerging as an active area of study and policy considerations. we share the nature and the role of science diplomacy in enhancing cross-border cooperative activities despite challenging political environments.
