Indiscriminate forest destruction has intensified the desertification of Asian countries and diminished biodiversity. New and restored forests in dry areas can prevent desertification, maintain diverse plants and animals, and contribute to the green growth of the region through ecotourism. Forests are also the only sink of GHGs (Green House Gases) that could be used in Korea’s response to climate change by participating in REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) projects in Asian countries. In this session, we will explore ways to expand Korea’s role in sustainable development and green growth domestically and elsewhere in Asia.
