As the concept of the Indo-Pacific emerges as a new center for regional issues, ASEAN has also become an important regional actor. ASEAN's survival strategy in the face of regional hegemonic competition, epitomized by the US-China rivalry, is outlined in the ASEAN Perspectives on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). However, beyond these "official and generalized" strategies, there is room to explore how ASEAN countries actually perceive and view the great powers and their competition. Going beyond the issue of ASEAN's survival in the midst of great power rivalry, this session examines the expectations and doubts of ASEAN countries toward the United States and China.
