The Think Tanks and Civil Society Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania announced 2 Japanese institutions and 3 Chinese institutions included in the world’s 50 best think tanks list, while none from Korea are listed. This provides an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean think tanks. Specialists in Korean academia point out major factors for think tank capability: autonomy from big businesses and government, financial independence, consistent research topics and direction, and voluntary participation of civil society. This session will be an open space to discussion the mission and challenges of Korean think tanks on international affairs.
