East Asia is a very densely populated area where one-third of the world’s human population resides. The adjacent seas are highly productive and generate the largest fishery yields in the world, which in turn support the high consumption of fish products by residents of the surrounding countries. Recently, however, the rapid population and economic growth have threatened food security and the sustainability of marine ecosystems. In this session, we will discuss the effect of climate change on fisheries in the region to suggest adaptation approaches and policies for international organizations and local governments.
