[Korea Institute for National Unification 통일연구원] The situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula has been rapidly changing thanks to an opportunity created by the PyeongChang Winter Olympics held last February. Since then, the dialogue and negotiation phase has been unfolding with regard to North Korea’s nuclear issues. The US-North Korea summit is scheduled to take place for the first time in history, followed by the inter-Korean summit slated for April. The inter-Korean summit and the US-North Korea summit both set the denuclearization and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula as a main agenda. A window of historic opportunity is opening up to establish a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. Therefore, now is the time for the two Koreas to present detailed and creative measures to bring about permanent peace on the peninsula in cooperation with the international community. To that end, this session aims to present and discuss a Korea’s strategy on the denuclearization and the creation of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and a way for international cooperation. It also provides a venue for sharing insights on the practical implementation of relevant policy at the 2018 Jeju Forum. 지난 2월 평창 동계올림픽을 계기로 한반도 정세가 급변하고 있다. 북핵문제 관련 대화·협상 국면이 전개되고 있으며, 4월 말 남북정상회담 개최에 이어 역사상 첫 북미정상회담이 곧 개최될 예정이다. 이 두 정상회담은 모두 한반도 비핵화와 평화정착을 핵심적 의제로 삼고 있다. 바야흐로 한반도 평화체제 구축을 위한 역사적 기회의 창이 열리고 있다. 남과 북 그리고 국제사회가 한반도의 항구적인 평화정착을 함께 이루어 가기 위한 창의적이고 구체적인 방안을 제시해야 할 시점이다. 이에 이번 2018년 제주포럼에서 한반도 비핵화·평화체제 구축을 위한 한국의 전략 및 국제적 협력 방안에 대해 발표하고 토론하는 자리를 갖고, 실효적 정책 추진을 위한 지혜를 모으고자 한다.
