FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

President Park Geun-hye proposed ‘Trust-building Process’ as her key policy in inter-Korean relationship, meaning that her administration will stand firm against any North Korean provocations while keeping the door open for the North’s return to dialogue. Essentially, it is a two-track approach of applying pressure and inducing dialogue. Despite some success in the form of reunion of separated families and reopening of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, the North has continued to express negative attitudes through its recent missile tests. This session will discuss the vision and methods of implementing trust politics from the perspectives of four parties in the region including secretary of Security Strategy from Cheong Wa Dae who in in charge of implementing the ‘Trust-building Process’.

박근혜 대통령은 남북관계의 핵심 정책으로 ‘신뢰프로세스’를 제안한 바 있습니다. 북한의 도발에는 강력히 대응하지만 대화의 문은 계속 열려있음을 강조했습니다. 이것은 근본적으로 압박과 대화유도를 병행하는 정책입니다. 이러한 정책을 바탕으로 작년 개성공단 위기를 넘기고 이산가족 상봉을 치렀지만, 아직까지도 북한은 잇단 미사일 시험발사로 부정적인 모습을 보이고 있습니다. 이 세션은 현 정부의 ‘신뢰프로세스’ 정책추진 실무자 중 한 사람인 청와대 안보전략비서관을 포함하여 4개국의 관점에서 본 정책의 비전과 실행방안에 관해 토의합니다
