Kyuryoon Kim has researched on the themes regarding North-South Korean relations, various aspects of the Korean unification, and international dimensions of the Korean peninsula during his career at the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU) since its foundation in 1991. His recent published books include Global Expectations for Korean Unification, Lessons of Transformation for Korean Unification, The Attraction of Korean Unification, Modernization and Opening-Up of North Korean Economy, Political Economy of the Northeast Asian Regional Cooperation.

He served as Director of Planning and Coordination, Director of International Studies Division, and Director of Inter-Korean Cooperation at KINU. He contributed to the academic community of South Korea as President of the Korean Association of Area Studies, Vice President of the Korean Association of International Studies, and Vice President of the Korean Political Science Association. He now works as a Senior Research Fellow at KINU.

김규륜 박사는 통일연구원의 창설 연구위원으로서 1991년부터 남북관계와 한반도 통일 및 국제관계에 대해서 연구를 수행하였다. 김규륜 박사의 최근 저서로는 한반도 통일의 효과, 대미 및 대중 조화외교, 한반도 통일의 미래와 주변4국의 기대, 선도형 통일의 경로와 과제 등 통일관련 연구 결과물과 신아시아 외교와 새로운 평화의 모색, 신평화구상 실현을 위한 전략과 과제, 동북아 경제 안보 협력의 연계 등 외교관련 연구결과물을 집대성한 저작물이 있다.

김규륜 박사는 한국세계지역학회 회장, 한국국제정치학회 부회장, 한국정치학회 부회장을 역임함으로써 한국의 지식공동체에 기여한 바 있다. 통일연구원에서는 기획조정실장, 국제연구실장, 남북협력연구실장 등을 역임하였으며, 현재는 통일연구원의 선임연구위원으로 재직 중이다.
