Ivo Veenkamp has served as the first Deputy Executive Director since January 2013. Currently he is also an Associate Fellow for Counterterrorism and Extremism of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and a member of the Steering Committee of the RESOLVE Network (Researching Solutions to Violent Extremism).
Ivo has over twenty years of working experience at the crossroads of international, national and local policy and programming. He has been responsible for issues related to counterterrorism, countering violent extremism (CVE), social cohesion, and civic integration.
Ivo was the Dutch Director for Counterterrorism Policy and Strategy reporting directly to the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security for more than five years. In this capacity he was responsible for the Dutch counterterrorism- and CVE policy, the first national Counterterrorism strategy and international cooperation. He contributed to many international meetings as a moderator and speaker on counterterrorism and CVE, and was actively involved in the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) from its inception.
Before this, Ivo was among others the Program Director for Modernizing Civic Integration at the Ministry of Security and Justice and the Head of Urban Policy at the Ministry of the Interior. He started his career as a Management Consultant at the Government and Non-Profit group of KPMG Consulting.
Ivo was selected for the two year Leadership Development Program of the Dutch Senior Executive Service and joined the Senior Executive Service shortly after. When he started at Hedayah he had been a member of the Dutch Senior Executive Service for more than eight years. Ivo has master degrees in both Political Science and Psychology (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam.
