김일환은 현재 제주대학교 전기공학과 교수로 31년째 근무하고 있다. 그는 전기에너지 관련 교육과 연구에 매진해왔으며, 제주지역 재생에너지 보급 확대 및 안정적인 운영 방안에 대해서 많은 연구와 경험을 가진 전문가로 잘 알려져 있다. 그는 제주도의 에너지 정책에 중심적인 역할을 하는 제주도에너지위원회 위원장, 기업지원 전문기관인 제주테크노파크 원장 그리고 제주대학교 공과대학장을 역임하였다. 국제전기전자학회, 대한전기학회, 한국전력전자학회의 정회원으로 많은 학술 활동도 하고 있으며, 제주지역 재생에너지의 안정적인 전력계통 연계 및 운영 방안에 대한 많은 국내·외 저명학술지에 논문을 게재하였다. 그는 현재도 제주지역 전력에너지에 관련된 기술과 정책 분야에서 관련된 연구를 하고 있다. 김일환은 1991년 중앙대학교에서 전기공학 전공으로 공학박사 학위를 취득하였다.

Eel-hwan Kim has been working as a professor in the Dept. of Electrical Eng. at Jeju National University for 31 years, and is now well-known as an expert with a lot of research and experience on the renewable energy in Jeju. He has served as the chairperson of the Jeju Energy Commission, which plays a central role in Jeju energy policy, the director of Jeju Technopark, a specialized public organization for business support, and the dean of the College of Engineering at Jeju National University. He is also a regular member of the IEEE, the KIPE, and the KIEE, and has published many papers related enewable energy in domestic and foreign journals. Eel-hwan Kim obtained his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Chung-Ang University, Korea, in 1991.
