Chang Soo Jin has achieved his master’s degree in Political Science at Sogang University in August, 1988, after having graduated from Sogang University (B.A. in Political Science) in 1986. Jin started as a researcher of International Relations at the University of Tokyo in October, 1989, entered the Ph.D. program in April, 1990, and received his Ph.D. degree in Political Science in October, 1994.

1986년 서강대학교 정치외교학과를 졸업하여 1988년 8월 동대학원에서 정치외교학 석사를 취득. 1989년 10월 동경대학 국제관계론전공 연구생으로 입학하여, 1990년 4월 동대학원 박사과정에 입학, 1994년 10월 정치학 박사학위를 취득하였다.
1996년 7월 세종연구소 수석연구위원, 동경대학 사회과학연구소 객원 연구원(2001.8.-2002.2.). 교토대학 법학부 초빙학자(2002.3.-2002.7.), 한국정치학회 이사, 국제정치학회 이사, 현대일본학회 이사(2003.1. - 현재), 대통령 외교자문위원(2004.2.-2007.12), 세종연구소 부소장(2007.2.-2009.6.), SAIS, Johns Hopkins University, 방문학자(2010.10.-2011.7.), 홋카이도대학 공공정책대학원 특임교수(2011.8.-2012.3.), 세종연구소 일본연구센터장(2002.7.- 현재), 세종연구소 소장(2015.5.1.- 현재) 등을 역임 등 활발한 활동을 하고 있다.
