하짐 파미 대사는 1987년 이집트 외교부에 입사하여, 브뤼셀 EU 주재 이집트 공관(1991-1995), 외교부장관 내각(1995~1998) 및 UN 주재 이집트 공관(1998-2003)에서 근무한 바 있다. UN 근무 당시, UNDP 집행위원회 아프리카 부대표(2001), 개발을 위한 자금조달에 관한 국제컨퍼런스 (ICFFD) 조직위원회 사무국 아프리카 부의장(몬트레이 2002) 및 ICFFD 보고관 책임자로 선출된 바 있다. 이후, UN 사무국으로 파견되어 개발 자금조달 사무국 및 사무총장 사무국 등에서 근무했다. 2014년 7월 1일에는 이집트 개발 파트너십 초대 사무총장으로 임명되었으며, 2015년 부터 2016년까지 효과적인 개발협력을 위한 글로벌 파트너십 운영위원회에서 북아프리카 대표로 선출되어 활동했다(2015-2016). 파미 대사는 카이로 아메리칸 대학에서 경제학 학사를 마치고 (1986), 하버드 대학에서 행정학 석사(1990), 뉴스쿨 대학에서 경제학 석사(2007), 그리고 동 대학 경제학 박사(2011)학위를 취득했다.

Ambassador Hazem Fahmy started his career in 1987 at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served at the Egyptian mission to the European Union in Brussels (1991-1995), the Egyptian Foreign Minister’s Cabinet (1995-1998) and at the Egyptian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (1998-2003). At the UN, he was elected Vice President for Africa on the Executive Board of UNDP (2001), Vice Chairman for Africa on the Bureau overseeing the preparatory process of the International Conference on Financing for Development ICFFD (Monterrey 2002), and “Rapporteur General” of ICFFD. He was seconded to the UN Secretariat (2003-2014), at the Financing for Development Office and at the Executive Office of the Secretary General. On the first of July 2014 Ambassador Fahmy was appointed as the first Secretary General of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development. He was elected by the African Union to represent North Africa on the Steering Committee of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (2015-2016). He has a B.A. in Economics from the American University in Cairo (1986), a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University (1990), a MPhil Economics from the New School University (2007) and a PHD in Economics from the New School University (2011).
