이영종은 한국의 대표적 신문인 중앙일보에서 북한통일 문제를 커버하는 전문기자로 일하고 있다. 26년 동안 여러 차례의 방북 취재 경험을 갖고 있으며, 모두 5차례의 남북 정상회담과 북한 핵 실험, 금강산 관광과 개성공단 가동, 남북 이산가족 상봉 행사 등을 현장 취재했다.
고려대학교에서 북한학 박사과정을 수료했고, 미국 우드로윌슨국제센터의 초빙연구원으로 일했다.
현재 중앙일보 통일문화연구소 소장으로 재직 중이다. 저서로는 [후계자 김정은] [선샤인 리포트] [김정일가의 여인들] 등이 있다.

Lee Young-jong works as a professional reporter covering the issue of North Korea's reunification at the JoongAng Ilbo, South Korea's leading newspaper. He has several experiences covering his visit to North Korea over 26 years, and has covered a total of five inter-Korean summits, North Korea's nuclear tests, tours to Mount Kumgang and the openning of the Kaesong Industrial Complex and inter-Korean family reunion events.
He completed a Ph.D. in North Korean studies at Korea University and worked as a independent researcher at the WWICS(Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars) in the United States.
He is currently serving as the director of the JoongAng Ilbo's Institute of Unification and Culture. He wrote some of the books include [Successor Kim Jong-un], [Sunshine Report] and [Women of the Kim Jong-il family] etc.
