박찬식은 현재 제주연구원 부설 제주학연구센터 소장이다. 민주평화통일자문회의 자문위원, 제주 평화통일포럼 연구위원장으로 활동 중이다. 전공 분야는 한국 근현대사, 제주 지역사 등이다. 저서 및 논문은 한국근대사, 제주4.3사건의 역사, 제주도 민중사 등이 있다. 제주대 연구교수, 제주4.3연구소 소장으로 재직하였다.

Park Chan-sik is the director of Center for Jeju-Studies at the Jeju Research Institute. Dr. Park is a member of the Advisory Board of the Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification and the Research Chairperson of the Jeju Peace and Unification Forum. His major fields are Korean modern history and the local history of Jeju Island. His studies are on Korean modern history, the history of Jeju 4.3 Incident, and people's history of Jeju Island. He was a research professor at Jeju National University from 2006-2009 and the director of Jeju 4.3 Research Institute from 2008-2010.
