루츠 묄러는 여러 유엔 업무에 관한 다양한 시각을 가지고 있다. 2015년 이래 유네스코독일위원회 부사무총장으로서 독일의 유네스코 참여에 많은 부분을 지원하고 있다. 2009년부터 유네스코 의사결정회의의 독일대표단으로 활동하였고, 전 세계 유네스코 국가위원회와 긴밀히 협력해왔다. 독일위원회 내에서는 과학 분야 지속가능발전과를 맡고 있기도 하다.

지속가능발전교육, 생물권보전지역, 지질공원, 과학정책, 민간협력 분야에서 일해오며 반기문 유엔 사무총장의 과학자문위원회 발족, 유럽지역 유네스코 국가위원회 네트워크 운영을 핵심적으로 지원했으며, 여러 국제회의와 워크숍 조직과 30여종의 책자를 발간했다.

독일위원회에서 일한 2004년 이래 위원회의 전략적인 사회적 영향과 인지도 제고를 위한 사무총장 업무를 지원하였으며, 그 기간 동안 위원회의 재정은 5배 이상, 인력은 3배 이상 증대되었다. 루츠 묄로는 뮌헨 대학에서 이론물리학 박사학위를 수여하였으며, 뮌헨과 옥스퍼드에서 물리와 철학을 공부했다.

Lutz Möller can offer a wide diversity of insights into the work of the United Nations. As Deputy Secretary-General since 2015, he accompanies a large part of Germany’s engagement with UNESCO. He has been member of the German delegation to all UNESCO Governing Bodies since 2009 and he is also in charge of the extensive cooperation with other National Commissions globally. He also heads the Commission’s division for Sustainable Development, Science.

Within his portfolio are, i.a., Education for Sustainable Development, Biosphere Reserves, Geoparks, Science Policy, and Private Sector Cooperation. Inter alia, he has provided key support to launching the Scientific Advisory Board of then UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and to the launch and running of the European Network of National Commissions. He organized dozens of conferences and workshops, including global conferences, and edited more than 30 publications.

Since joining the National Commission in 2004, he has also provided support to the Secretary-General’s successful work towards strategically increasing the Commission’s societal impact and visibility. During this period, the Commission’s combined budget increased by more than fivefold, staff increased threefold. Lutz Möller has a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Munich. He has studied Physics, and Philosophy, in Munich and Oxford.
