이금순 선임연구위원은 1994년부터 통일연구원에서 근무하여 왔으며, 남북간 인도주의사안과 북한인권관련 많은 프로젝트에 참여하여 왔다. 1990년대 말부터 탈북민 심층면접조사를 통해 연구를 진행하여 왔다. 주요 연구저서 및 논문으로는 <남북한 여성 비교연구: 사회적 역할을 중심으로>, <한반도 민족분단과 여성: 평화적 통일을 위한 여성주의적 접근>, <국제사회 대북지원의 영향력 분석>, <북한주민의 거주이동: 실태와 전망>, <남북한 인도주의 협력의 의미와 과제>, <이산가족문제 해결을 위한 인도적 협력> 등이 있다.
이금순위원은 2015년부터 2017년까지 통일부 통일교육원장을 역임한 바 있으며, 현재는 통일부 북한인권기록센터장으로 일하고 있다. 1993년 미국 퍼듀대학교에서 정치학 박사학위를 수여하였다.

Keumsoon Lee joined Korea Institute for National Unification in 1994 and has done many research projects on Humanitarian and Human Rights issues on the Korean peninsula. Dr. Lee has interviewed North Korean escapees for her researches since the late 1990s. Her major publications and writings are <A Comparative Study of Women in North and South Korea: focusing on Social Roles)>, <National Division and Women in Korea: Women's Approaches to Peaceful Reunification>, <The Impact of International Humanitarian Assistance on North Korea>, <Border Crossing of North Korean People: Implications and Prospects>, <Implications and Tasks of Inter-Korean Humanitarian Cooperation>, and <Humanitarian Cooperation for Resolution of the Separated Families>.
She also served as Assistant Minister for Unification Education at the Ministry of Unification from 2015 to 2017. Keumsoon Lee got Ph. D in Political Science from Purdue University in 1993.
